Exhausted Realist
I recently acquired a copy of the new (1990) edition of Wallace Stevens' Opus Posthumous, to replace my lost copy of the earlier edition. On browsing through it I ran across the poem "Anecdote of the Abnormal," whose last stanza particularly spoke to me:
Crispin-valet, Crispin-saint!
The exhausted realist beholds
His tattered manikin arise,
Tuck in the straw,
And stalk the skies.
Happy Holidays to all!
